My mom and I went on a hike in Cedar Mountain. I picked a really bright and fun outfit before we looked at the weather. I had to completely change my outfit because there was a storm warning and it was cold.
The outfit that I was going to wear is on my Instagram. Since what I really wore wasn't put together, I am going to give some hiking tips for first timers along with pictures from our trip.
My mom and I had a lot of fun on this trip. My mom was just recently diagnosed with stage 4 arthritis. She was really heartbroken by the new. She said she might not be able to walk in years to come, and that she wouldn't be able to do the things that she has always wanted (like hiking). I secretly planned this trip. I bought all the gear, and food. I told her to take my survey for school, but really she was taking the survey to pick out which trail we would do. I saved up money.
Tips for beginning hikers
- Make sure your map matches with your GPS and other maps. My mom and I made this mistake. We turned a 1.5 mile hike into a 20 mile hike.
- Make sure you only drink water. My mom (being the southern women she is) only drunk sweet tea, an she got dehydrated.
- Bring toilet paper just in case duty calls when there are no restrooms
- Always know where you are. Since there is not any cell service, you need to know where you are so you don't get lost.
- ENJOY THE OUTDOORS
